The Gamm Studio
For the amateur actor, the working professional actor and everyone in between, The Gamm Studio provides an enjoyable and unique learning experience in a comfortable, nurturing environment. The Gamm Studio does not offer a "method" of theater training, rather the emphasis is on the individual student. All sessions run for 7 weeks and cost $230, with discounts for returning students. Playwriting Basics with Cliff Odle
January 25 - March 8 Mondays 6:30-9:30pm
This class is designed for people who either want to learn how to write plays or people who have been trying to write but are experiencing difficulties. The students will learn the “nuts and bolts” of playwriting such as structure, story development, character development, and dialogue. Learn through discussions, in- and out-of-class writing exercises, and the development of your own one-act play. One-acts will be given staged readings at the end of the course. Are you a teenager interested in pursing a degree or a career in acting? These 7-week sessions focus on scene study, monologue work and character development, culminating in a showcase at The Gamm.
SPRING CLASSES
Voice for the Actor with Wendy Overly
March 15 - April 26 Mondays 7:00-10:00pm
Study the linking of the actor's vocal, physical and emotional
resources through text, movement and sound. Integration of the voice
with the whole body will be the focus of this class. Techniques include
the study and practice of relaxation, improvisational movement,
projection and resonance, breath control, vocal variety and
articulation.
Classical Scene Study with Fred Sullivan, Jr.
March 29 - May 10 Mondays 6:30-9:30pm
Explore the techniques, mechanics and vocabulary of classical dramatic text – focusing on Shakespeare and other great classical playwrights - through partnered scene work in a class formatted to suit actors of varying levels of experience. This class culminates in a showcase evening of your rehearsed work. Learn by doing. Rehearsal outside of class time is required. *Class size limited to 12 students.
SPRING/SUMMER CLASSES
Intro to Acting with Steve Kidd
April 26 - June 2 Mondays 6:30-9:30pm
Explore the techniques and vocabulary essential to understanding the craft of creating a performance through basic improvisation, monologue work and scene study. This class is open to experienced hams, as well as raw beginners who are curious about theater and performance skills—or those who are simply interested in discussing acting through more informed eyes. Learn by doing. Rehearsal outside of class time is required. *Class size limited to 14 students.
Stage Dialects for Fun and Profit with Wendy Overly
May 11 - June 22 Tuesdays 6:30-9:30pm
This fascinating and practical class will take the mystery out of learning 3 dialects and provide actors with the tools to analyze and study any dialect. By using the International Phonetic Alphabet, participants will explore ways to “shape sound” toward the vocal creation of a character for the stage. You'll get hooked on dialects and never listen to a person's "accent" the same way again!
Advanced Acting with Fred Sullivan, Jr.
May 31 - July 12 Mondays 6:30-9:30pm
This is a class for experienced actors intending to better their skills, push their own boundaries, break old habits and be engaged in some very demanding scene work. Previous work either on stage or in scene study classes with Mr. Sullivan is a prerequisite and admission is subject to approval by the instructor. This class culminates in a showcase evening of your rehearsed work. Learn by doing. Rehearsal outside of class time is required. *Class size limited to 12 students. |
